RESTORE Essential

The standard course for mood conditions. Three infusions over three days, dosed to a measured target concentration in the blood, with a physician in the room throughout.

Ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic. It is not FDA-approved for depression, anxiety, PTSD, or chronic pain, and its use for those conditions is off-label. Individual results vary and cannot be predicted in advance.

Who it is for

When the usual things have not worked

Most people who come to us have already worked through a list: two or more antidepressants, and often transcranial magnetic stimulation, electroconvulsive therapy, or esketamine. Arriving here usually means that list is finished and the problem is not.

Some people who have not improved with any of those do respond to an infusion course, and some do not. No result can be promised, and we will say early if it is not working.

If you are taking stimulants or mood stabilizers, or you have known genetic or metabolic complications, tell us at the outset. Those do not rule you out, but they change how the course is planned.

What the program is

Each infusion is adjusted to how you responded to the one before it, rather than repeated to a fixed recipe. The RESTORE Method sets out how the dosing is calculated and why.

What is included

Everything in the course

Before treatment

  • Review of your medical records and every previous laboratory study
  • Baseline scoring on validated depression, anxiety and pain scales
  • Review of thyroid, testosterone or estrogen, vitamin D, B6 and B12, with further testing where it is indicated
  • A full medicine review, and a conversation with your prescriber where something may interfere

The infusions

  • Three sequential infusions, each adjusted to your own measurements and your response to the last
  • Dosing set from your adjusted body composition, current medications and prior treatment history

The rate is adjusted during the infusion, not set once and left.

Monitoring throughout

  • A physician present with you for the whole infusion
  • Heart rate and heart rate variability, ECG, blood pressure and oxygen saturation, measured continuously
  • Infusion adjusted in response to what the monitors and you are showing

Afterward

  • Post-infusion assessment by the physician who treated you, and reassessment between infusions
  • The same symptom scales repeated, so the result is measured rather than remembered
  • Results sent to your psychiatrist or prescriber if you would like
  • The RESTORE supplement after the course, included in the fee

Afterward

Maintenance, and how it is decided

After the first three infusions, the usual pattern is two infusions at around three months and one at around six months. Whether you need them, and when, is decided by your score on a validated rating scale rather than by the calendar.

In a retrospective review of our own patients, the mean interval before a further infusion was needed was about eight months.

That review was retrospective, uncontrolled and not peer reviewed. It is not a prediction of your result, and it is not a rate. Our results page sets out what the review showed and what it cannot tell you.

Straight talk

What this program is not

It is not a cure, and it is not a replacement for the psychiatrist or prescriber you already have. We work alongside that person and we would rather they stayed involved.

It is not available anywhere but Sarasota at present, which means travel for most people. And it does not help everyone — we cannot tell in advance who it will not help, which is why you are scored before and after rather than asked how you feel about it.

If it is not working for you, we will say so early rather than sell you a further course.
